Hello John,

Thank you for the rapid response. I am running Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS. Ideally I would like the "Main" window minimized and the "OpenGL Display" in a specific location on the screen. If I position and resize a gnome-terminal window in the exact location of interest I am pull info on its position and size:

[ ~ ] LAPTOP $ xwininfo -id $(xprop -root | awk '/_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW\(WINDOW\)/{print $NF}')

xwininfo: Window id: 0x425f2df "test"

  Absolute upper-left Y: 52

  Relative upper-left X: 0

  Relative upper-left Y: 0

  Width: 650

  Height: 716

  Depth: 32

  Visual: 0x60

  Visual Class: TrueColor

  Border width: 0

  Class: InputOutput

  Colormap: 0x4200005 (not installed)

  Bit Gravity State: NorthWestGravity

  Window Gravity State: NorthWestGravity

  Backing Store State: NotUseful

  Save Under State: no

  Map State: IsViewable

  Override Redirect State: no

You can control this on most platforms, either by setting
environment variables on Unix, or by adding "display resize"
and "display reposition" commands to your local or global
.vmdrc or vmd.rc startup files. See the VMD User's Guide for
more details about these things. If you tell us more about your
target platform, we could provide better suggestions.
