I just tried running a simple Tkinter application from VMD's
python. In this case everything works fine. I tried this because
VTK is displaying the graphics in a Tkinter frame.
I think that the problem is VTK somehow not behaving like
it should, but at the moment I do not know how to get
more information on this.
