I have a similar problem as previously described:

I am trying to run VMD in text mode on the Open Science Grid, a distributed
computing network. It is part of an algorithm (Hamiltonian replica
exchange) that cycles between NAMD and VMD instances. Unfortunately, some
of the computers have OpenGL and some do not. I was wondering if you could
make a LINUX_64 text mode version of VMD available.
