hi,

for the more adventurous: i have posted a bourne shell
version of the VMD startup script to the VMD public
project BioFS ( src/akohlmey/vmd.sh ).

to the best of my knowledge i tried to stay away from
bash-isms and use as portable sh constructs as possible.
it works fine so far with bash/sh and ksh on my linux machine,
but that is rather simple to achieve. i suspect getting
it work correctly on AIX and other more traditional *nix
machines, may need a few tweaks.

please test and give me your comments.
