Lorenzo,
I'd recommend reporting the bug to the NVidia guys if you've got
a moment. You'll need to tell them that you were running a 64-bit
OpenGL application when you encountered the problem, since the drivers
have multiple entry points (and often somewhat different code) for
the 32-bit and 64-bit OpenGL API calls. If the regular 32-bit
build of VMD runs with the new drivers, then I'd suspect that its only
the 64-bit half of the driver that's having trouble. Can you run any
other 64-bit OpenGL apps successfully? Another option (once I have
my AMD64 test box running again) is to try a new VMD environment
variable to disable the use of all OpenGL extensions, it could be
that one of the more advanced OpenGL features is cratering their
driver, but that the simple ones all work. It'd be helpful to the
NVidia guys we you can narrow down the exact cause of the problem,
but it could be that they already know about it too. Either way,
I'd post a note to their support email and/or any online forums they
maintain these days.
