Tom,
  What happens if you temporarily rename your .cshrc file so it isn't
sourced by the VMD startup shell scripts? I'm guessing that this
may solve your problem. If so, then there must be something amiss with
your .cshrc file or some file that it in turn sources. If that makes
no difference, then I'll have to think about this a bit more, I haven't
run into this problem before, so I'm not sure what would cause it.
