Hi,
  It is up to you what IMD port is used for interconnection between
NAMD and VMD. You can set this in the NAMD config file, and also in
the VMD graphical interfaces (and/or text commands). I'm not familiar
with the particular steps you're trying to follow, but if you read
the documentation for the IMD features of VMD and NAMD you can set
the port for the IMD connection, which addresses the specific question
you had below.
