Hi,
  Thanks for your note. I am wondering if this is caused
by an experimental plugin that we added to the VMD 1.9.4a7 test build.
Try removing this experimental plugin and see if the problem goes away
Using a terminal shell, cd to the directory that contains your VMD .app bundle,
and then run this command:
  mv VMD\ 1.9.4.app/Contents/vmd/plugins/MACOSXX86/molfile/orcaplugin.so /tmp

Once you've done that, try restarting VMD and let me know if you still have
the same problem or not.
