  Can you tell me more about this 16" display?
The 96dpi X11 display settings you mention are way off from correct.
Even assuming the monitor was 16" wide, the correct pixel
density number would be 240dpi rather than 96dpi.

That being said, the way that the FLTK GUI toolkit used by works,
the size of fonts, menu items, etc are somewhat tied to screen pixels,
and I don't think there's any expectation of them being able to automatically
resize for a screen that's 240dpi. If you open an 'xterm' how readable
are the fonts? The GNOME tools may have some means of adapting the main
GUIs for high pixel densities, but most X11 apps do not, and 'xterm'
is a bellwether for the behavior of most standard X11 apps.

That said, I will see what I can find out about dealing with this, as
it's sure to become a more common problem.

I use a 3840x2160 display in my office, but in my case, the screen is
49", which results in a conventional pixel density under 100dpi.
