Thanks Rui,

I will give that a try. The windows file system is truly a strange thing.

It is even more strange than this... :)

In windows, VMD's default working directory is C:\Program Files\University of Illinois\VMD , which is where VMD/tachyon is trying to write the file. If you go to that directory, via explorer or cmd.exe, you will not see your file, which suggests that the directory is not writable.
However, if you have, e.g, Gimp installed, and try to open the file (menu file->open...), you will see that your file is there! :)

When I use VMD to render in windows , I just browse to my home directory to save file there...

Yes I have. I searched for all .tga files. There were only a handful and none of them were the file I was looking for. Strange behavior.

Hi David,
Usually the Tachyon default output file name is "vmdscene.dat.tga"
on Unix-like and Mac OSs.
Not sure about Windows though.

Have you already tried searching for the above file name?

Quick question. I am rendering with vmd and tachyon. When I do so I get the following output:

Info> Rendering current scene to 'vmdscene.tga' ...
Info> Ambient occlusion rendering enabled.
Info> Tachyon: preprocessing time 0.047000 sec, render time 14.445000 sec.

Running this on windows. Where is vmdscene.tga? I search the entire computer and can't find it.
