this looks as if you have a broken or inconsistent GL driver/library.
have you rebooted after installing the driver?

please make sure that you have configured your display for
at least 15 bits per pixel color depth (and not 8bpp PseudoColor).

xdpyinfo or glxinfo will provide this information,
or you can check it by reading through /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

that can have all kinds of reasons. with the few data points that
you provide it looks like you have a misconfigured machine.
