Dear VMD-L,
I'm releasing VMD 1.4 beta 3 this afternoon right before I go out
of town for a few days. If there are VMD questions while I'm gone
one of our other VMD developers should be able to help you out, and I
will be attempting to read mail sporadically. I'll return on December 1st.
Here are the salient points about beta 3 over previous betas:
- OpenGL versions of VMD now implement a simple (but very fast)
transparency algorithm. So the transparency button finally works
in the OpenGL builds now! I will be making a number of additional
improvements to this code when I return. I hope to implement at least
one alpha blending based technique.
- new transparency support added to Raster3D export code
- improved scene exports to Tachyon (especially transparency)
- greatly improved Postscript renderer, several serious memory leaks fixed,
works fine now on large molecules that used to crash the code.
- fixed a bug with Surf on HPUX, and another Surf bug on all VMD platforms.
- updated interactive MD code, some things that didn't make it into
the beta 2 builds.
- added the "print" item back on the atom info popup menu, was
accidentally removed previously.
Thanks for using VMD!
John Stone
