Hi Murali,
The NERSC support folks are very friendly, and would know more about getting this working (or even getting VMD installed as a module) than we would. Another thing you may want to try is adding the "mesa" module, which *might* get you a different version of libGL in your path that does work.

I upgraded to VMD 1.9.3 last week. The install went fine on my personal Mac, but I am having issues installing vmd on two clusters I use: one of them is NERSC Edison. The issue is that - GLSL rendering is not available. I get identical error messages on start up on both the clusters:
