I'm using VMD on a Macbook Air, Mavericks OSX 10.9.2

It's quite possible that using the latest update (to 10.9.3) broke
compatibility. Something similar happened with Valgrind (a C program
analyzer/debigger) during previous rounds of OSX updates.
