Hi,
  That's correct, the installer can't do an "upgrade" type installation.
There wouldn't be much to be gained from an "upgrade" of VMD except
that it would be 1 less set of mouse clicks in the Windows control panels,
since different versions share relatively few or no files with each other.
I'll look into it for a future version of VMD to save people a couple of
mouse clicks if the InstallShield tools will allow it.
