Dear VMD developers,
I noticed that vmd crashes on loading large
trajectories after allocating between 3-4GB
RAM.
I suspect this comes from the memory limit
imposed by the 32-bit architecture (for which
the available Windows-builds are created).
After looking through the archives, I found this
response from Feb 2011:

Will there be a Windows-x64 build within
the next release? There are 8.4 and 8.5 x64
Tcl builds available. Will these be suiteable
für vmd? (e.g.: http://www.activestate.com/activetcl/downloads)
Thanks & regards
^.
