Hi,
  You can see what version the NVIDIA video driver is by doing
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version

If VMD runs correctly locally on the display host, then it must be
a GLX bug. The fact that you're able to display to a different remote
host without trouble seems to indicate that the flaw resides on that
local host's X11 system or in the OpenGL drivers.

I've seen systems that work fine when displaying locally but they
fail miserably with remote display connections. In the cases I've run
across, this had more to do with the version of X11 included with the
linux distro, and whether it was fully patched. Even upgrading the video
drivers didn't fix it in the case I've seen previously, only upgrading the
X11 server itself fixed the problem.
