ok.

there is no easy way to have completion in the same way as tkcon, as that
would require a lot of lowlevel hacking to the VMD core code.

but there is a - to me - quite acceptable workaround by using an
external tool called "rlwrap". recent alpha versions of VMD make
use of it, if it is installed. mind you, it is a unix-only solution.
