Hi,
I downloaded the precompiled binary version of VMD 1.8.6 for MacOSX
10.4.11. (Intel86)

And when I try to use gopython in the console window, nothing happens.
Specifically,
invalid command name "gopython"

Has the python functionality been turned off for this operating
system and VMD version.
