Hi,

Yeah I actually had a pre-compiled install, and I didn't notice that
LINUXAMD64 was also for Intel x86 proc, I totally missed that (also
missed where how u can work out the proc your running). I was installing
the latest version 1.8.6

Thanks for your help in this matter.

but...

VMD is working fine now in root, however when I login as a user the vmd
main window does not open, yet the OpenGL display and vmd console do,
any suggestions?

Cheers

James

this means, that you _don't_ have a LINUXIA64 machine,
but most likely an AMD64 (or x86_64 or EM64T).

as mentioned many, many times before on this list
and in the online-documentation etc. etc.
you should specify what kind of OS/CPU you have.
("cat /proc/cpuinfo" and "uname -a" help on
linux machines). and please clarify, which version
of VMD you downloaded. it looks to me that you
didn't download the source code and thus you
actually didn't compile VMD.

try downloading the LINUX openGL or LINUXAMD64 version
(this one works also on intel cpus, despite the name,
for as long as they are compatible with the AMD64
instruction set).

cheers,
  axel.
