Siggraph 2002 Demonstrations

Title: Biomoloecular Visualization

When: 7/23 through 7/25 2002, Siggraph 2002 Exhibition
10am to 6pm on Tues/Wed, 10am to 5pm on Thursday.

Booth Location: Sun Microsystems Booth 13071

Siggraph 2002 Exhibition URL: http://www.siggraph.org/s2002/exhibition/

Support: JMV, VMD, and BioCoRE are developed by the Theoretical Biophysics Group, an NIH Resource for Macromolecular Modeling and Bioinformatics at the Beckman Institute, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The work is funded by the NIH National Center for Research Resources.

What will be demonstrated:

  • JMV: JMV is a molecular viewer component written in Java and Java3D that can be integrated within other Java programs. JMV implements several molecular representation and coloring modes, session saving, sterescopic display, and an easy-to-use interface. JMV will be shown running within a web browser, as a standalone application, and as a component within BioCoRE.

  • VMD: VMD is a molecular visualization and analysis tool based on OpenGL and FLTK, with built-in Tcl and Python scripting. The demos will showcase pre-release versions of VMD 1.8, the upcoming major release of VMD. We will highlight VMD's interactive visualization and animation features as well as plugin analysis tools and interactive simulations.

  • BioCoRE: We will demonstrate BioCoRE collaboration features within JMV and VMD. We plan to demonstrate the BioCoRE notebook, control panel, chat feature, and show how JMV and VMD can interact with files on the BioCoRE filesystem.
