Abstract

This lecture will report on the following three aspects of liquid water dynamics: (1) What is the nature of the global potential energy surface governing liquid water dynamics, the latter characterized by collective motions and long-time relaxation? How can one observe these collective motions and relaxations through highly nonlinear flash photolysis? (2) How does water freeze into a crystalline ice structure? (3) How does an excess proton move in liquid water and ice? The main focus of the lecture will be (2) and (3).
