Abstract

He will explore the structural dynamics and regulatory mechanisms underpinning function in membrane transporters. We combine the emerging hydrogen- deuterium exchange MS technology with MD simulations to accurately predict the molecular conformations of transporters by taking into account their surrounding lipid environment. Our results suggest that phospholipids interact with conserved networks of charged amino-acids to modulate the structural dynamics of membrane transporters. This approach provides a template for interrogating currently elusive transient protein-lipid interactions important for molecular function.
