Postdoctoral Research Associate
Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group
Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

The Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group (TCBG, www.ks.uiuc.edu) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in scientific computing, specifically in visual molecular dynamics or in parallel computing as applied to simulation of large biomolecular systems.

The position involves, depending on applicant background, further development of TCBG’s Visual Molecular Dynamics (VMD) program (see www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/vmd) or contributing to the development of TCBG’s Nanoscale Molecular Dynamics (NAMD) program (see www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/namd).

Requirements:A doctoral degree in the biological or physical sciences or in computer science, and three years of experience in programming in C/C++ on a Unix platform are required for either position.

Preferences: Experience with Tcl/Tk, POSIX Threads, OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, scientific visualization, OpenGL, Python are preferred qualities in those seeking to work with VMD; a background in scientific computing, high-performance parallel computing, and performance optimization are preferred qualities of those applying for the NAMD-related position. Experience with molecular modeling and simulation is desirable for both positions.

The postdoctoral position is a 100% full-time, benefits-eligible academic position with the University of Illinois. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. In order to ensure full consideration, applications must be received by June 22, 2009.
