The Theoretical and Computational Biophysics (TCB) Group (www.ks.uiuc.edu) at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology seeks to fill a vacancy for one (1) full-time Biosoftware Sales Engineer. The purpose of this position is to market TCB's Visual Molecular Dynamics (VMD) and Nanoscale Molecular Dynamics (NAMD) software to the corporate scientific community, along with providing software customization and training services. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Promotion
  • Develop and distribute promotional materials
  • Create and maintain promotional website
  • Attend conference and meetings to promote software
  • Pursue leads on potential clients
Programming
  • Write scripts in Tcl/.tk and Python languages for VMD program
  • Develop plugins using Tcl/tk, Python, C/C++ for VMD program
  • Customize configuration files for NAMD program to clientele computing systems
  • Provide limited client after-sales support
Management
  • Negotiate licenses with clientele and campus units
  • Maintain accounts, contacts, and other business records
Training
  • Organize training events for corporate clients
  • Develop as needed revised or new training materials
  • Sell training packages to clientele

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree preferably in the life sciences, with a strong background in business and computing, or a Bachelors degree preferably in business with a strong background in life sciences and computing. Knowledge/proficiency in one or more computing languages (e.g., Python, C/C++). Strong written and verbal skills, and an ability to perform duties using independent judgment and decision-making without extensive direction/supervision.

Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral or Masters degree in the life sciences with significant computing and marketing experience. Background in biology/ biophysics, experience in sales/marketing, record of providing training to corporate audiences, demonstrated ability to work with a range of clientele, programming experience with Python, C/C++, and Tcl, evidence of web site development activities.

The Biosoftware Sales Engineer position is a 100% full-time, benefits-eligible Academic Professional position.
