RITT88A It is demonstrated that the computational capabilities of Kohonen's self-organizing mapping algorithm can be applied to problems from such diverse fields as sensory mappings, combinatorial optimization and motor control. In addition we present some recent mathematical results characterizing important properties of the algorithm in these situations.
