Hi John,
   
  I just gave it a try. If I input the following script directly the VMD Tk console instead of putting it in the vmd.rc file. The script of the extented command can be loaded. But I don't know how to load a script file automatically.
   
   # command extensions
foreach ext [glob -nocomplain C:/vmdextensions/*.tcl] {
source $ext
}
