Yang,
What video card are you using? It sounds to me like there's
some sort of problem with your video drivers. If you can provide
me with more information about your system I should be able to help.
The standard advice for people running Windows is to make absolutely
sure that you've got working video drivers for your graphics board
installed, and that they are up-to-date. If you're sure about that,
then the next step would be to try running the program in a different
way by going into the "My Computer" system settings and add a new
environment variable "VMDSIMPLEGRAPHICS" with the value "1". Once
added, this should force VMD to be much more conservative with the
graphics features it uses, and you may then be able to run ok on
your machine. If not, then you'll need to work with me to determine
what the exact cause of the problem is.

Thanks,
  John Stone
