Hi,
  I haven't run across this problem yet, but then we're still using
the older GHOST API with our haptic devices here. I'm hoping to get
a VRPN server up and running with the new HDAPI, then I should be able
to test and see if I have the same problem you're having. Can you connect
to the VRPN server using any of their test client programs? If not, then
this may indicate that the VRPN server is being blocked or there's some
misconfiguration problem between VMD and the VRPN server. Let me know what
you find out after testing with the VRPN programs. It might also be something
as simple as a VRPN library versus server version mismatch between the VMD
1.8.3 build and the server you're running, I'm not sure at this moment.
