Hi,
Usually this is caused by out-of-date entries in your XFree86 config
file. Make sure you've _exactly_ followed the NVidia README file instructions.
Installing the driver is 90% of what's needed, but you may have some old
stuff in your XFree86Config file that needs to be removed or changed, and
the NVidia README says what specifically to look for...
