Hi guys,
  While it won't happen for this upcoming version, I think we all agree that
the use of the old FLTK FL_Counter widgets is suboptimal and it would be
nice to redesign the GUI using widgets that allow direct text-input, smoothly
changing values, and easily "clickable" value setting behavior as well.
We've made a couple of our own widgets that are already in use in the
Isosurface slider controls and elsewhere, but these haven't replaced
the older controls yet. The trick is to come up with a widget that's as
compact as the Fl_Counter, but with the flexibility of the others.
I'll see what I can do for a subsequent version of the VMD GUI, but
for the short-term the text interface should be usable for this purpose.
