Hi,
I suggest that you try this version:
"LINUX_64 OpenGL, CUDA (Linux (RHEL 4.6 and later) 64-bit Intel/AMD x86_64 w/ SSE, with CUDA)"
  http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Development/Download/download.cgi?UserID=&AccessCode=&ArchiveID=1334

It's completely okay if you don't have a CUDA-capable GPU, it won't harm
the CUDA-enabled versions of VMD. VMD will print a note during startup
that no CUDA accelerators were found, but otherwise it will run the same
way that a non-CUDA build of VMD would run.

Cheers,
