Hi,
Usually the problem is that people have installed a 64-bit version
of VMD on a machine that is running a 32-bit version of Linux. You
can check this by running this command:
% uname -a
Linux casablanca.ks.uiuc.edu 2.6.9-67.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Nov 7 13:56:44 EST 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

If you have a 64-bit linux, you should see this output from uname -m:
% uname -m
x86_64

Cheers,
