Charles,
  You need to uninstall the old version before installing VMD 1.8.6.
The new VMD 1.8.6 installer is built using a different version of
InstallShield, and so it may not detect the old version you already
had there, thus causing problems if you install on top of the old one.
Try running the uninstall for your old version(s) make sure there's no
leftover stuff, and then install the new version.
