Unfortunately, most of the rendering packages that I'm aware
of do not support 3-D texture mapping. They'll do 2-D texmaps, but
not 3-D. As a result, the VolumeSlice representation in VMD doesn't
(yet) export to these external renderers, and you should get a warning
when you render the scene that some geometry won't match what you
see VMD. I'm working on adding this capability to Tachyon for VMD 1.8.6,
and I have to code about 30% done as of last night, but I'll need
a few more days to test it thoroughly. At present, I don't know of
a good way to get POV-Ray to render such things. I might be able to make
a special-case export routine that only works for the VolumeSlice
representation only, but not in time for VMD 1.8.6. I assume you are
attempting to make a very high resolution figure right? If so, I hope
to have something you can use via Tachyon in a few days.
