hmmm, the webpage you're referring to is dated 1997 and the link
to VMD refers to version 1.3. a _lot_ has changed in the inner
workings and the script API of VMD since. so (without looking at
the code itself) it is highly likely, that script may need some
(minor?) revisions to work correctly with a current VMD version.
