Tim,
  Nobody has written a VMD plugin to directly read/write the
native LAMMPS files yet, but if someone familiar with the LAMMPS
file formats was interested in doing it, I suspect it would be pretty
easy to accomplish. In absence of built-in plugins for reading LAMMPS
files, the next best option is probably to use one of the LAMMPS file format
conversion tools they list on the LAMMPS page:

You can see that some other LAMMPS users have used VMD to make movies,
so it's clearly doable:
