Hey John,

sorry for the late reply. Due to some movements going on, I currently
only have my remote GPU system available running over VNC and
VirtuaGL. These machines have two Tesla k20m and the driver version is
 375.39

As said before, the non interactive version works with the alpha
channel output and the interactive renderer works with VMD-1.9.3 but
not with 1.9.4 showing only a black screen and "empty" image, only
seem to contain the transparent bg.

Norman,
Do you observe that behavior every time?  It works fine for me
and on all
of the machines here in our lab, and it should also for everyone else,

but maybe you've found a bug somehow.  Which VMD build are you
running,
what GPU did you run it on, and what NVIDIA driver version does your
machine have installed?

Best,
