Yes they were the NVidia supplied drivers, and it was the Athlon64/Opteron
build.

Too bad, I was excited about the new drivers actually working (compared to
the old ones).

such things have happened. You're using the NVidia-supplied drivers
right?
The 1.8.3a7 version you were using, was it the 64-bit Athlon64/Opteron
build,
or was it the standard Linux version?
