Thank you for your quick replies. I managed to fix this in the meantime. The
reason for VMD-CUDA not working seemed to be that I had replaced the nvidia
drivers from the sles11-sp2 distribution by the latest nvidia drivers
downloaded from nvidia some days before the distribution upgrade to sp3,
just to fix some hardware stereo issues. Obviously there have remained some
spurious remnants of this manual installation after the distribution
upgrade. So I first deinstalled the SP3 distribution delivered nvidia
drivers. In text mode I then run again the *.run file of the downloaded
nvidida drivers with the option --uninstall to remove any remnants and
rebooted. Afterwards I reinstalled the drivers from the distribution. Now
VMD-CUDA is working again.
