Hi,
  Can you send us the text messages that VMD prints in the
text console when it starts up? I'm curious to see if it has
any warnings about the OpenGL driver, and/or what driver is
reported as active. What output do you get if you run this command?:
  cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version
