Hi,
Out of curiosity, what configuration flags did you use when you
compiled VMD from source? Perhaps you disabled a feature that is
causing an interaction that is responsible for the freeze? What
do you get when you run this command on both your build and the
pre-packaged binary:
vmdinfo options
