Dear Madhuri,
In order to load the "CRD" file produced by Charmm, you'll need to
use the new "coor" plugin, which is not available in the existing released
versions of VMD. The version you're using is probably attempting to load
that file as an Amber "CRD" file, which is certainly failing. Even with
the new plugin, you're going to have to specifically tell it to use the
"Coor" plugin rather than the auto-guess "CRD" plugin.

If you want to update, there are two easy options:
  1) download and install the new "coor" plugin, after I manage to get a fresh
set of plugins posted on our web site.
  2) install a beta of VMD 1.8.2 (has the plugin built-in already)

Let me know which option is more appealing and I can help you get setup.

Thanks,
  John Stone
