David,
To use the CAVE wand you'll need to use the Graphics->Tools menu,
and make sure you've setup a vmdsensors file that contains a config
for it. See attachment for an example of what such a file looks like.
This is also described in the VMD User's Guide under the discussion about
the tools menu and vmdsensors files.
