Tom,
  I would just write a for loop that reads the "sorted" frame numbers from
a list, and does the 'animate goto' therein. If you want it to work with
the interactive VMD frame slider GUI, that's not presently possible as it
is hard-wired to go to the absolute frame indices currently.
