a geforce 2 MX 400 is a _very_ old GPU.
have a look at the bargain bin of your
local electronic/computer hardware store.
they'll probably have a much better GPU
(for linux nvidia is still the best choice)
at a very low price.

you want the matching nvidia driver installed.
how to set this up properly, is not really a VMD
question, and it is difficult to explain everything
over e-mail, so i would recommend you find a local
person that knows about this and helps you to set
it up. the vmd binary will work with both, but the
graphics will be much faster with the nvidia driver.

please have a closer look at the installation instructions.
you have to type: make install
