I found a thread from May 2007 ( http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Research/vmd/mailing_list/vmd-l/9422.html
  ) that mentions there is currently no way to apply a volmap mask in
the current version of VMD, even though the documentation would
suggest otherwise.

Is this still the case? Is there a CVS build I could use to work with
volmap masks? Alternatively, is there a tool I could use to open a
volmap *.dx file and delete unwanted areas?
