Hi there
I've tried as you proposed to start like this
[dikov_at_violet dikov]$ /usr/local/vmd-1.7.1/LINUX/vmd_LINUX

/usr/local/vmd-1.7.1/LINUX/vmd_LINUX: relocation error:
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.so.
1: undefined symbol: XextFindDisplay
[dikov_at_violet dikov]$

In text mode vmd starts whithout any problem

So the problem is in /usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.so library and I'll write to ALT
Linux developers . But if anybody has some suggestions what to do and how to
fix your comments are appreciated
