Registration and Fees

Q: Does the workshop provide any financial aid?
A: Unfortunately we are unable to provide any financial assistance.

Q: What is covered in the registration fee?
A: Shared housing (two people per room) is included in the registration fee. Workshop materials and other instructional costs are included in the fee. However, meals are not included.

Travel/Transportation

Q: I am not sure whether I could legally stay in the US for the workshop without a visa, or if this is not the case, what visa I would need. Do you know what the current regulations are and can you sponsor my visa application?
A: Please check all US entry-related matters on your end, as different countries have different immigration agreements with the US. We are not able to help with the entry processes to the US. As of October 26, 2004, there are some changes that international travelers to the U.S. should be aware of.  For the latest information about obtaining visas, visit the web site:  http://travel.state.gov/visa/index.html

Q: What airport should I fly to?
A: The Hartsfield - Jackson International Airport is approximately 13 miles from hotel.

Q: How can I get from the airport to the hotel (and back)?
A: Here are some options:

  • Atlanta Airport Superior Shuttle offers shuttle service to/from hotel & airport @ $18.50 per person, one way; $33.00 round trip. To arrange pickup, please call 404-762-3007.
  • Shuttle services: Atlanta Airport Shuttle Service, offers shuttle service to/from hotel & airport @ $18.50 per person, one way; $33.00 round trip. To arrange pickup, call 404-941-3440. Atlanta Airport Superior Shuttle has a similar shuttle, to/from hotel & airport @ $20.50 per person, one way; $35.00 round trip, phone is 770-457-4794.

  • Hotel guests can use MARTA (the subway system) from the airport which is $2.00 each way and then the hotel has a complimentary shuttle from the Midtown MARTA station. Click to see MARTA stations around the hotel, and a general MARTA rail map.

Q: How do I get from the hotel to Conference Room 102 in the Pettit Building, and back?
A: The Tech Trolley provides free shuttle service from the Georgia Tech Hotel to nearby campus stop and back. Consult this map for times and locations. Here too is a Google map of the route.

Housing/Accommodations

Q: Can I stay longer before/after the workshop?
A: Shared housing (two per room) is provided for 3/20 (check-in) and 3/26 (check-out). You have to arrange with the Georgia Tech Hotel by yourself if you would like to stay longer, or if you want a single room.

Q: How does the pairing of room-mates work and would people know who they would share rooms with before arrival?
A: Pairing will be mostly done at check-in time. Participants will not be notified in advance.

Q: Can I bring a spouse or significant other to share my double room with me?
A: No. Anything outside of sharing a double with another workshop participant you will have to arrange and pay for by yourself.

Q. Can I use the portion of money spent for my spot in a double to help me pay for a single?
A: No. Anything outside of sharing a double with another workshop participant you will have to arrange and pay for by yourself.

Dining

Q: Where can I eat?
A:  There is a restaurant within the hotel, and there are restaurants with good prices within a few minutes walking distance of the hotel - click here for a map of some nearby restaurant dinner options. For the breakfast crowd there is a Waffle House on 5th street and Cafe Kia Ora a block or so away serves breakfast and brunch, plus the hotel will give you a coupon allowing your to purchase breakfast at the hotel restaurant for $10.

Miscellaneous

Q: Am I registered as a University of Illinois student for the workshop? Or at Georgia Tech
A: No. The workshop participants are not legally registered as students at UIUC or GA Tech. Attending the workshop is comparable to participation in any conference or a professional meeting and does not establish any formal association with UIUC.

Q:  Will I have internet access at the Georgia Tech Hotel? And at the workshop site?
A:  Yes, according to the hotel internet access is provided, which also works on campus: "When you arrive at the hotel, the front desk agent will ask if you'd like internet during your stay. Then she'll hand you a small card with a code on it. You can then access the internet in the hotel as well as on the GT campus. If you have questions about it, feel free to ask the front desk agent about it upon check in or call the hotel main line at 404-374-9440. Wireless and wired internet are included in your room cost."
