Hi,
  Yes, this is a known bug in the current generation of NVidia drivers.
You can revert to driver version 1.0-7676 if you have one of the cards
supported by the older driver versions, and things will work much better with
GLSL. They say that their 1.0-9xxx driver series will fix the problems,
but as you mentioned, they aren't quite available yet. I'm hoping
they'll show up soon, as NVidia, ATI, and the other GPU companies often
ship new drivers just before or after the yearly Siggraph conference,
which is coming up in a few weeks.
